The Challenge: Push or be Pushed
In the epic Winter Quarter of 2013, the ME210 challenge is a fiscal cliff face-off with sumo wrestling robot senators.
The stage is shown below. The platform spans a whopping 4 ft x 8 ft, and a giant Sequester sweeps across the field during the competition to sweep stubborn Sumo Senators off the fiscal cliff into a foam moat of defeat and doom.

Each team is tasked with constructing a stand-alone, electromechanical robot (Sumo Senator) that is capable of pushing a passive enemy, the brick, off the platform. The Sumo Senator must be no larger than 11 ft x 11 ft x 11 ft. For an additional show of pride, the Sumo Senators also competed in a bracket competition for the right to deal with the fiscal cliff (not sure if this is a prize or a punishment).
A ring of black tape runs parallel to the outer edges of the cliff as a final warning to Sumo Senators headed for the cliff.
The Sequester emits a 4 kHz signal from its center and will start sweeping across the platform 30 seconds after the start of the match. It will take approximately 90 seconds to sweep across the whole field; thus, each bout is limited to 2 minutes.
Each Sumo Senator emits an 850 Hz signal at 11 inches off the platform. In addition, Sumo Senators are only allowed to make contact at 3 inches off of the platform with foam bumpers. The bumpers must surround each Sumo Senator.
In the final single elimination tournament, there is only 2 choices for your Sumo Senator: PUSH OR BE PUSHED!
